This week we sent out an order to Uncle Joe’s. Famous for their Mint Balls, Uncle Joe’s is a Wigan based, family owned confectionary company and is only a couple minutes walk from ADM. Since William Santus set up the company in 1898, they have come a long way and now their products are sold all over the world in supermarkets and local newsagents.
The History of Uncle Joe’s
When he left school, Santus started to sell fresh fruit and vegetables at the local market hall in Wigan, for a living. He then met his wife, who came from a family of confectioners and they taught her to make the mint sweets we all know and love today. William started to sell these sweets on his stall. Along with his fruit and vegetables, and they became a big hit. More and more people came to try the mint balls, which lead him to buying 2 more stalls in Bolton and St. Helens to sell the sweets on.
Furthermore, the lead Santus to an idea of creating his own business, and that’s how Uncle Joe’s was made. He sold his stalls in Bolton and St. Helens and moved into a near by factory. Were the treats were created and then transported to the Wigan market. After a rise in popularity, Uncle Joe’s were forced to move into a bigger factory in 1919, this factory is also the current factory on Dorning Street.
Uncle Joe’s began to sell at Rugby and Football games, their advertisements were seen in newspapers such as the Wigan Observer and the Uncle Joe’s brand was sold in countries like Kenya, India and America.
What was the order?
This order contained the AWDis Cool Recycled Tees in Fire Red, the Gildan Softstyle Ringspun T-Shirt in Red and the AWDis Varsity Hoodie in Red/Black. All items were then printed with the Uncle Joe’s logo onto the middle of the chest, using custom printed transfers.
